Slow down!
LUCEA, Hanover – HEAD of the Hanover Police Division, Deputy Superintendent Arthel Colley, has appealed to motorists to be cautious when using the section of roadway between Green Island and Riu Hotel in Negril, Hanover.
“I would just want to appeal to our drivers, especially those who ride motorbikes, to be careful on our roadways — especially in the area between Green Island and Club Riu,” Colley said.
“That particular road surface is very smooth, even without rainfall. Depending on how fast you are driving, it can lead to serious crashes. We have seen a number of crashes in that area, and from the police’s point of view, we are attributing them to the surface of the roadway,” he added.
DSP Colley’s appeal comes days after a motor vehicle crash along the Orange Bay main road in Hanover, involving a car driven by Jason Alliman, a 26-year-old prosecutor, and another vehicle.
Police said Alliman was driving on a wet section of the roadway when his car skidded and collided with a vehicle travelling in the opposite direction.
Alliman, who was admitted to the Cornwall Regional Hospital in St James, later succumbed to injuries he received from the December 7 accident.
