Winners of 2015
The leading horse based on stakes is Seeking My Dream, trained by Wayne DaCosta and owned by Derrick Smith. Seeking My Dream scored five wins and five seconds from 10 starts, including victories in the Jamaica Derby and the inaugural ultra-rich Diamond Mile Race, earning just above $14 million and is considered as a Horse-of-the- Year contender.
Among the jockeys, Shane Ellis has taken the crown for the second time, with the first being in 2000. Despite a spirited challenge from Robert Halledeen, Ellis held firm and in the end was the undisputed victor. Halledeen tried his best, but was outdone 72-83 by the more experienced Ellis.
It is a case of the same in the trainers’ category as Wayne DaCosta is the champion once more, and for a record-breaking 15th time in his illustrious career, DaCosta has saddled 67 winners from 343 starts for earnings of just over $65 million. Richard Azan finished second on 33 winners from 165 starts with earnings of over $26.8 million ahead of Anthony Nunes with 42 winners from 287 starts for earnings of over $25.6 million.
In the Owners’ Championship, Elite Bloodstock Limited retained their title as they finished on top with earnings of over $15.1 million ahead of Derrick Smith with over $14.2.
In the breeders’ race, HAM Stables are the runaway winners followed by YS 1955 Limited and Jaghai OD, JP and Henry William.
