AN admitted drug mule broke down in tears after she was denied bail in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

Thirty-four-year-old Kerry-Ann Sinclair pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine, dealing in cocaine, and taking steps to export cocaine. She pleaded not guilty to a charge of conspiring with others to export cocaine.

Sinclair is to be sentenced on January 25.

Reports are that on the morning of December 18, Sinclair was preparing to board a flight to Atlanta at the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston when she was stopped and searched.

Packages of cocaine weighing two pounds and seven ounces were found strapped to her abdomen and her leg. She was arrested and charged.

On Tuesday, her attorney Stephen Powell told the court, during a bail application, that his client needed some time to set her house in order prior to sentencing.

But Resident Magistrate Simone Wolfe-Reece told Powell that she was not minded to grant his client bail, based on the circumstances.

“I don’t believe bail is necessary at this time,” Wolfe-Reece said, causing Sinclair to break down in tears.

The magistrate subsequently ordered a social inquiry report into Sinclair’s background ahead of her sentencing later this month.
