Weekly Round-up: Murders up…17 gas pumps ordered closed… Plug pulled on Sting
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The police on Tuesday released data showing that 1,192 people were murdered between January 1 and December 26, 2015.
The figure is an increase of 195 when compared to the corresponding period in 2014, when there were 1,005 murders, the lowest in 11 years.
Meanwhile, as the bad gas saga continues, authorities on Wednesday ordered that pumps at 17 service stations across the island be closed due to reports of bad fuel being sold.
The stations identified are in St James, Kingston, Manchester, St Catherine, Clarendon, and St Thomas.
In entertainment, dancehall artiste Vershon is frustrated at the organisers of Sting after police abruptly ended the Boxing Day show minutes after 6:00 am Sunday.
The artiste said the organisers failed to stick to the running order, which resulted in him not making his debut.
Meanwhile, shootings, rapes and aggravated assaults showed a reduction in 2015.
