Noranda Council recognises outstanding citizens of St Ann

Noranda Bauxite Community Council continues to recognise outstanding citizens in St Ann with the latest group being honoured for service in the field of education, agriculture, religion, business, health, sports, youth and community development and the bauxite industry.

The annual Citizens Award Ceremony which was held this year at Port Rhoades Sports Club, Discovery Bay, was attended by St Ann Custos Norma Walters, and Noranda Bauxite’s Vice-President and General Manager Antoine Liddell.

The Noranda Community Council is an organisation comprised of Noranda Bauxite employees and representatives of districts in and around Discovery Bay. It is a member of the Council of Voluntary Social Services and is a non-profit, voluntary organisation dedicated to community development.

Council Chairman Kent Skyers said the awards were presented “so that others may learn to appreciate the values of integrity and discipline which the awardees have displayed throughout their lives.”

Council Public Relations Officer Ann-Marie Scott noted that that two of the awardees were senior citizens who have given immense service to their communities. One was Aldin Robinson who at 92 years was an inspiration to youth and an active deacon in his Old Folly New Testament Church.

The other senior, Inez Duncan, is highly regarded in her Farm Town community for exemplary family values and uprightness.

The awardees included Rev Thomas Brady and Aldin Robinson for religious leadership; Lorna Johnson, Arlene Mills and Ivett Bartley for continuing services to Early Childhood Education; David Saunders, for life guard services; Ernest Cover and Maurice Bryson for community development; Cynthia ‘Breezy’ Watkis, for services to nursing; Arlene Mills, education; David Gordon, for services to the postal services; Michael ‘Gabby’ Gabbidon, for services to commerce; Martin Hopwood for education assistance and business development; Arthur Rodgers, community and business development, and Inez ‘Miss Dulcie’ Duncan, for exemplary contribution as a senior citizen,

A posthumous award was made to the late Robin Hall for exceptional community development and leadership.

Ninety-two year old Aldin Robinson gives an expressive vote-of-thanks.
