Portlanders celebrate the new year in praise
Portlanders rang in the new year at various venues across the parish. While many attended the traditional watchnight service at church, others partied the night away at a New Year’s ball or at the club.
The free gospel concert Alpha, which was held in Port Antonio Square,’ seemingly attracted the biggest crowd. The 23rd staging of the annual event , which saw performances from local talents from various churches in the parish, is sponsored by the Portland Credit Union. Despite the intermittent showers the patrons would not miss out on the opportunity to begin the new year with an attitude of praise as many stood under umbrellas or in the rain to enjoy the performances.
