Benitez out, Zidane in
It has now been confirmed that Rafael Benitez has been sacked and is no longer the coach of Real Madrid.
Zinedine Zidane has been announced as the new manager of Real Madrid. Zidane was previously the coach of Real Madrid’s feeder team Real Madrid Castilla before taking up this position.
For the past couple weeks it was rumoured that Benitez had lost the faith of the senior players and the administration. His sacking was further predicted as Real Madrid has failed to perform as expected and are currently third in the La Liga table.
Though Real Madrid has advanced to the knockout round of the Champions League, they were still haunted by the El Clasico defeat this season. In addition to this Real Madrid has been knocked out of the Copa del Rey due to fielding a suspended player. Critics have said that was their best chance of getting a trophy this season. With all of this and Zidane expressing a desire to one day coach the team, it wasn’t looking good for Benitez.
