Granville, Faulkland hunt place in St James KO semis
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Former champions Granville FC and promoted Senior League team Faulkland FC will both seek to join Melbourne FC in the semi-finals of the St James Football Association Captain’s Bakery and Grill Knockout competition when they meet at Jarrett Park today at 3:00 pm.
Melbourne FC booked the first semi-final spot on Monday after beating Tomorrow’s People 2-1 in extra time in a bruising encounter at the UDC field.
Raphael Palmer, who came on late in the game, scored the winner in the 98th minute to break a 1-1 tie with the game appearing headed for penalty kicks.
Androcle Poyser gave Melbourne the lead in the 33rd minute before Marcel Whyte levelled for Tomorrow’s People from the penalty spot in the 38th minute.
Today, Granville, who play in the Western Confederation Super League, will give Faulkland FC their toughest test so far this season.
Faulkland FC won both games played so far, beating Club Stars 2-0 in the first round, then another Super League team Montego Bay Boys Club 4-2 in the previous round.
Granville FC are on a three-game winning streak in the Super League during which time they have not conceded a goal.
The quarter-finals will end tomorrow with Red Stripe Premier League team Montego Bay United taking on Wadadah FC at WesPow Park.
