Robinson’s brace keeps Ricam top of Manchester Major League
MANDEVILLE, Manchester — Ricam Academy maintained their impressive start to the Manchester FA/Magnum/Captain’s Bakery Major League competition as cross-zone fixtures got under way at the weekend.
The newly crowned Brumalia House Knockout champions blanked the previously unbeaten Mile Gully 2-0 on Sunday to stay at the top of Zone Two on 16 points.
Striker Maxwell Robinson scored both goals for Ricam, netting in the 13th and 37th minutes to give his team a fifth win in six outings.
The victory also means Ricam, who defeated Hillstars to win the KO title last week, are now the only unbeaten team in the 12-team competition. Yet they remain just one point ahead of second-placed Downs FC.
Downs, last season’s beaten finalists, clipped Comfort 1-0, courtesy of an Omar Bennett 29th-minute strike.
The result means Downs created breathing space between themselves and third-placed Alligator Pond, who inched to 11 points following a goalless stalemate with title holders Hillstars FC.
Despite dropping points for the second time in three games, Hillstars regained top spot in Zone One on 13 points ahead of Mile Gully, albeit on goal difference.
Georges Valley moved into third on eight points, swapping places with fourth-placed Comfort (six), following their 2-0 triumph over promoted Land Settlement.
Sherwin Stone (60th) and Sean Walcott (69th) scored for Valley who also cut the gap on the top two to five points.
