ST JOHN’S, Antigua (CMC) — Radio stations across ten Caribbean countries have agreed to carry live commentary of the NAGICO Super50 championship which begins today.

The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) announced on Tuesday that the region’s premier One-day cricket tournament will be broadcast on radio stations in Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, British Virgin Islands, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines and Trinidad and Tobago.

GEM Radio Five Limited, part of the One Caribbean Media Group, is coordinating the broadcast headed by noted commentator Andrew Mason.

“We decided to make the commentary feeds available at no cost to the broadcasters in order to ensure that the matches are carried live in all the territories,” General Manager, GEM Radio Five Limited, Richard Purcell said.

“By so doing, we are keeping alive the great West Indian tradition of listening to cricket on radio.”

St Kitts and Nevis and Trinidad and Tobago are co-hosting the third edition of the NAGICO Super50.

Commercial Manager of the WICB, Nelecia Yeates, is urging listeners to “to tune in to the very exciting games that will be on for the duration of the championship.”

She added that the WICB is “making every effort to allow consumers access to the game on radio, live streaming and on television.”

The NAGICO Super50 opens with defending champions, TT Red Force, playing Jamaica Scorpions in the feature game at the Queen’s Park Oval, following a clash between the Barbados Pride and newcomers ICC Americas at the UWI grounds.

In St Kitts, Leeward Islands Hurricanes will go up against the CCC Marooners, and last year’s second-placed team Guyana Jaguars will play against Windward Islands Volcanoes.
