Wayne Dacosta lands three-timer
Record 15-time champion trainer Wayne DaCosta continued where he left off last year when he saddled three winners to highlight the 10-race programme at Caymanas Park last Saturday.
DaCosta’s winners started in the second when in-form jockey Robert Halledeen guided Cruising Motion (Weekend Cruise – Total Motion) to a three-length victory over Nolan Hill (Aaron Chatrie) and Dutchess Uriel (Linton Steadman) in a maiden special weight event for native-bred three-year-olds over 1,000 metres round. The winning time was a pedestrian 1:02:0 minutes.
He followed up in the next very race when Big George ( Deputy Glitters – Late Appeal), ridden by Omar Walker, romped home easily by three lengths over Pizarro (Odean Edwards) and Action Man (Linton Steadman) in a Restricted Allowance event for native-bred four-year-olds and upward non-winners of three over 1,200 metres. The clock was stopped in 1:13:4 minutes.
DaCosta completed his three-timer when Halledeen rode a brilliant race aboard the Alexander Haber-owned Poker Star (Liquidity – Buyabook) to beat Campesino (Shane Ellis) by a length in the St Catherine Cup feature, an Open Allowance event for three-year-olds and upward over 1,100 metres. The winning time was a decent 1:05:2 minutes.
FOUR HORSES CLAIMED ON SATURDAY
Only four claims were made on the 10-race programme at Caymanas Park on Saturday.
Seven-year-old chestnut mare I’m Alright, who won the fourth race, was claimed from Morris Powell by Welsh Soutar for Collin P Allen for $180,000.
In the seventh race, Lord Storm was claimed from O’Neil Markland by Neive Graham for O’Shaun Connection for $350,000; Rocketeer was claimed by Donovan Plummer for Derrick Gayle for $350,000 from Gary Crawford, and Lawrence Freemantle took El Numero Uno from Cashbert Khwalsingh for himself for $300,000.
FIRST-TIMERS
Cruising Motion and Medical Instinct released the maiden tag at Caymanas Park last Saturday.
With Robert Halledeen riding for 15-time champion trainer Wayne DaCosta, Cruising Motion (Weekend Cruise – Total Motion), who was sent off as the 3-5 favourite, picked up the lead entering the stretch run and powered home by three lengths over Nolan Hill and Dutchess Uriel in a maiden special weight event for native-bred three-year-olds over 1,000 metres round. The winning time was a pedestrian 1:02:0 minutes.
“
Cruising Motion ran a very good race. When I asked him to run turning for home he responded well and powered home easily. He has been running good races of late, finishing second on his three prior races and I am happy for him that he got home,” Halledeen said.
Medical Instinct (Homing Instinct – Medical Soca), trained by Paul Hylton and ridden by Ryan Nelson, made all convincingly to upset her more fancied rivals in a maiden conditioned race for native-bred five-year-olds and upward over 1,000 metres straight. Sent off at odds of 20-1, Medical Instinct was a comfortable two-and-three quarter lengths in front of 3-1 betting chance Queen Of The Town (Jevvanne Erwin) and 5-1 betting option Deputy Headgirl (Oneil Mullings) in a moderate 1:03:1 minutes.
“The performance was great and it is always good to win races. Medical Instinct ran a very good race and I am happy that we got home,” Nelson said.
