Early start to JCA’s U-15 preparation
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) got off to an early start with the preparation of the Under-15 team for this year’s regional tournament.
The training camp, supported by long-time cricket sponsor Kingston Wharves, is set to run from January 8 to 10 at Sabina Park.
The camp was launched on Friday inside the President’s Box at the George Headley Stand at Sabina Park.
Head coach Terrence Corke was very happy for the camp’s early start.
“Normally we only have about two weeks to prepare the team and that is not enough time to properly prepare the team for competition. I am happy that we are able to start quite early this year,” he said.
Barry Watson, the chairman of selectors for the Under-15 team, also thought the early camp’s early start is a good thing. He said that later this year there would be a series of regional camps with the cricketers to help keep them focused.
He also said that the intention is to include a number of non-cricket activities, such as media training, personal development and etiquette, among others.
Catherine Carter of Kingston Wharves reiterated her company’s continued commitment for cricket development in Jamaica. She encouraged the cricketers to learn all they can during the camp.
Wayne Cuff is the assistant coach, while former West Indies player and selector Robert Haynes is a consultant. Richard Walters is the camp’s monitor.
