Man accused of stealing co-worker’s identity
A man was on Wednesday taken before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court on fraud charges following allegations that he used his co-worker’s documents to access a $100,000 loan at a financial institution.
The accused, Maurice Salmon, 27, records clerk of Mark Lane in downtown Kingston, reportedly submitted the complainant’s driver’s licence and payslip, along with a forged application, to the company.
The incident occurred last November, and the fraud was discovered when the company sent a request to the complainant’s workplace for the money to be deducted from his pay.
When he appeared in court, Salmon pleaded not guilty to each of three charges: obtaining money by forged documents, uttering forged documents, and forgery. His bail was subsequently extended and he is to reappear in court on February 5.
