Empire I gets HBO plug
Get Up On It by Jamaica-based Welsh singer Empire I is one of the songs being used to promote the new season of the popular HBO comedy, Girls.
The fifth season starts February 24.
“It’s a great achievement for me because my song was chosen out of possibly thousands of others. I have great respect for Lena Dunham, who is the writer of the show. Its message resonates with me,” said Empire I.
The autobiographical Girls follows a group of ‘twenty-somethings’ who live in New York City. It is one of HBO’s most popular shows.
Empress I (formerly known as Empress Isis) said Get Up On It “reflects the premise of the show”.
She noted that Girls shows that “not only men, but women, can run things”.
Empress I was born Miriam Moufide in Wales to a Moroccan father and British mother. She spent her formative years in her father’s country before moving to Canada at age seven.
