MONTEGO BAY, St James – Reggae Youths have been kicked out of the semi-finals of the St James Football Association’s Captain’s Bakery and Grill Knockout competition, after using an ineligible player in their win over Heights FC last week.
Heights FC, who were benefiting from a team using an ineligible player for the second straight game, will now play Faulkland FC in the semi-finals later this month.
Javier Peak is the player who was deemed ineligible, as he was found to have played for two different clubs in the same Knockout competition, which is against the rules of FIFA, which says that “once a player represents a team in the knockout they are ‘cup-tied’ for the season”.
Peak played for Wadadah FC in their second-round win over Montego Bay United Under-21, before his transfer to Reggae Youths. He scored in his new team’s 4-0 win over Heights FC.
Heights FC had only advanced to the quarter-finals after Fire House were found to have used an ineligible player when they won their second-round game 5-4 on penalty kicks after the game had ended in a 1-1 draw.
