Goal line tech at Euros, Bale injury etc
It’s hard to keep up with football but don’t worry we take all the hassle out of it. Find out why Real Madrid’s bad luck has continued and the real fate of Pato, all that and much more in our weekly football roundup.
1. Gareth Bale is injured and is expected to be sidelined for three weeks. Reports are that Bale has suffered a muscle injury to his right soleus. The Welshman is no stranger to injury and is said to have had 11 injuries since his move from Tottenham. It’s a major setback for both him and his team because Bale had been in excellent form for Los Blancos this season, scoring 11 goals in his last eight matches. While he is expected to miss Real Madrid’s next four games against Betis, Espanyol, Granada and Athletic Bilbao, he should be ready to face Roma in the first leg of the Champions League Round-of-16 matches.
2. Word on the street is that Manchester United has put all their major transfers on a hold. This is due to officials being uncertain that Louis Van Gaal will remain at Old Trafford for another season and therefore they are wary of spending big money on players that the next boss won’t want. It was said that the pressure may be too much for Van Gaal and that he may quit a year early. Even if he doesn’t, it is unlikely that he will have his job if Manchester United does not have a place in Champions League next year. Gareth Bale also made news this week as the real money of his transfer was reportedly leaked. It was reported that the money Real Madrid paid for his 2013 move was not only a record but more than what they paid for Cristiano Ronaldo. It was said that Real Madrid kept it a secret to avoid upsetting Ronaldo. If this is all true training might become a little awkward.
3. With all the talks of Alexandre Pato moving to Chelsea, one would think it was written in stone. However, Pato’s agent says that four clubs including Chelsea and Liverpool are possible signers. He has insisted that no bids have been made. In the same breath, it was reported that Pato made a verbal agreement to join Chelsea. So, what is the truth?
4. Goal line technology will be used in Euro 2016 as well as next season’s Champions League Round-of-16 matches. The Executive Committee of European football’s governing body decided that this was the right way to go. There have been many disallowed goals in the past and it is hoped that this system will eliminate human error in deciding these whether or not goals should be disallowed or not.
5. It was reported that both Manchester United and Manchester City want to sign Neymar Jr. Surely, they aren’t the only clubs that would sign him but they might be the only clubs that think they could actually buy him. It was reported that Manchester United made a “proper offer” for the Barcelona forward and is willing to break any wage record and transfer record to keep Man City’s hands off him.Why would Barcelona let go of their Ballon d’Or third place forward? Don’t get your hopes up Man U fans.
