50 million reasons to #SigmaRun2016
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Sagicor Sigma Corporate Run is appealing for support from Jamaicans at home and abroad to make contributions to assist this year’s beneficiaries of the annual 5k road race to take place on Sunday, February 21.
The J$50 million target set will aid children across the island diagnosed with cancer, the Jamaica Cancer Society and Black River Hospital’s Paediatric Unit.
Vice President of Group Marketing at Sagicor, Ingrid Card, is urging Jamaicans to become active in their efforts to support the charities.
“If we each call on our friends and family, it is easy to get 10 donations for these worthy charities — as little as J$1,000 or US$10 combined will make a lot,” said Card.
Meanwhile, Richard Byles, President and CEO of Sagicor has already personally pledged J$1 million and called on Sagicor team members to make their own valuable contributions, the organisers said.
Members of the Jamaican Diaspora can join the crowd funding movement through www.generosity.com/community-fundraising/sagicor-sigma-corporate-run–3.
Cheques payable to ‘Sigma Run 2016’ and cash contributions can be made to any branch of Sagicor Bank account number 5502392157; Scotiabank account number 5502392157 or NCB number 291012795. Pledge cards are available at Sagicor branches islandwide and via Sagicor representatives.
Participants and the general public are also urged to use the #SigmaRun2016 and share #WhyIRunSIGMA on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
Each year, the Sigma Run Secretariat is responsible for identifying non-profit entities in need of assistance and the overall organization of the event, which is the largest 5k road race in the Caribbean. Funds raised are used to purchase necessary equipment, pay for services and maintain machinery. Over J$160 million has been raised for various causes in the Run’s 18 year history.
