Federal, Albion claim mid-season honours
SPANISH TOWN, St Catherine — Newly crowned mid-season champions Federal United will continue their hunt for a place in the semi-finals of the St Catherine FA Major League when they oppose Dela Vega City at Homestead today.
Game time is 3:30 pm.
Three other games will be played today — GC Foster FC are at home to Old Harbour Bay United, New Raiders United play Dunbeholden FC at Monk Street, while Royal Lakes travel to Newland FC.
On Wednesday, Federal continued their fairytale run in the Major League after upstaging last year’s beaten finalists Tru-Juice 2-0 to win the mid-season title at the Spanish Town Prison Oval.
Stephen Morant and Romain Williams were on target for the promoted outfit in the first half.
Federal, on 18 points, will now look to consolidate their position at the top of Zone A with a victory over Dela Vega, who occupy third place in Zone B on 13 points.
Despite the defeat, Tru-Juice remain at the top of Zone B on 19 points, followed by Dunbeholden (16).
Meanwhile, Albion FC were also in a jubilant mood on Wednesday night after they held off Marcus Garvey United 2-1 to claim mid-season honours in Division One.
Sheldon McKay and Ricardo Wright were the goalscorers for Albion, while Steven Wellington got Marcus Garvey’s consolation just before half time.
Albion lead the Division One competition on 17 points, followed by Marcus Garvey on 16. Benbow United (14) and Watson Grove FC (13) complete the top four.
But Benbow could join Albion at the top today should they beat East Portmore Portals at the Bybrook Oval.
Elsewhere, Police FC take on Tredegar Park at the Police Academy, while McCooks Pen journey to Cheesefield for a date with Travellers FC.
Those games are also scheduled to kick off at three o’clock.
