Big wins for Mile Gully, Ricam in Manchester Major League
MANDEVILLE, Manchester — It was a feast of goals in the Manchester FA/Magnum/Captain’s Bakery League on Tuesday, with some 14 goals being scored in two rescheduled cross-zone matches.
Former champions Mile Gully led the way, embarrassing Land Settlement 8-0 in Comfort, while Ricam Academy thrashed Old England 5-1 in Greenvale.
The victories kept both sides on course for a place in the semi-finals. Ricam regained the lead in Zone Two on 24 points, while Mile Gully moved to within three points of Zone One leaders Hillstars FC (22).
Barry Watson-coached Mile Gully came into this fixture on a two-game losing streak, but were never in any danger of losing a third against the basement team in Zone Two.
Ashani Lawrence led the way with a hat-trick, scoring in the 21st, 56th and 69th, while Alex Cummings added a brace in the 69th and 90th.
Tennison Brown (72nd) and Ashani Mullings (85th) were also on target, with the other being an own goal.
At the Greenvale Community Centre, the hosts were ahead from as early as the second minute when Romario Rochester fired home the first of his two goals. The other did not come until the 85th minute.
Marlando Maxwell, Nakia Stone and Vashbert Kennedy got the other goals for Ricam, who remain the only unbeaten team after 10 games, winning seven and drawing three.
Meanwhile, promoted duo Land Settlement (three points) and Old England (six points) remain the favourites for relegation. Both sides occupy the cellar positions in their respective groups.
