Great sets at We Are Reggae
DESPITE the rains earlier in the evening, singers Ken Boothe, Karen Smith and Peter Lloyd gave masterful performances at the monthly We Are Reggae series held at the Doctors Cave Beach in Montego Bay, recently.
Patrons couldn’t get enough of Boothe as he stamped his class on the event. Tracks The Train Is Coming, Everything I Own, Puppet On A String, and Archibella were well received.
Smith seamlessly crossed genres — reggae, jazz and soul selections. Her energy, grace and vocal prowess kept patrons entertained.
Lloyd, who was celebrating his birthday, delivered a short but entertaining set. He performed Konka Babylon, Gold Digga, Wake Dem Up, Blood On Your Hands and his covers, Who The Cap Fits to John Holt’s version of Carpenter.
Emerging act also Abby Dallas and dub poet Skriptcha graced the stage.
“This, We Are Reggae Festival, while not unplugged, brought patrons from as far away as the United States of America and Canada, alongside our faithful We Are Reggae loyalists. I must thank my business partners, our sponsors and everyone who helped to make this an overwhelming success,” said Lloyd, who is part promoter of the event.
We Are Reggae unplugged series will feature Grammy nominee Luciano on Saturday, February 27.
