Omar admitted to hospital
TRANSPORT and Works Minister Omar Davies was yesterday admitted to hospital after falling ill at his St Andrew home.
It was not clear what caused the minister’s illness.
The news, meanwhile, caused concerns among his constituencies in St Andrew Southern, where he was last Thursday re-elected as the member of parliament.
“We [are] just hoping and praying that the minister pull through. When me hear that them rush him to hospital it left me worried,” said one resident of Arnett Gardens, one of the communities in the constituency.
“We [are] really shaken up by the news [but] we want to know say the minister ok; we just hoping that the rigorous election campaign did not affect him,” said another resident.
People’s National Party (PNP) officials said before Davies fell ill he, along with Richard Azan and Morais Guy, were scheduled to meet with the staff of the transport ministry.
In Davies’ absence, the meeting was conducted by Azan, the junior minister in the ministry, and Guy, minister without portfolio. The purpose of the meeting was likely to say thanks to staff as the PNP Government prepares to demit office following its loss at the polls last Thursday.
It is the second time within a year that Davies had to seek emergency medical attention.
In March 2015, he had to take leave of absence as transport minister due to illness.
