UPDATE: Electoral Commission to send list of winners to GG tomorrow
KINGSTON, Jamaica— OBSERVER ONLINE understands that Director of Elections Orrette Fisher will be sending the list of winners in Thursday’s general election to the Governor General, Sir Patrick Allen, tomorrow.
Fisher told a press briefing at the Electoral Commission of Jamaica’s (ECJ) head office on Red Hills Road, St Andrew, earlier today that the final count would be completed by today, and the list of winners sent off to Sir Patrick by Wednesday.
However, OBSERVER ONLINE learnt a short while ago that he will, in fact, send the list to the GG tomorrow.
It is understood that his decision is based on indications that Jamaica Labour Party candidate for Western St Thomas, James Robertson, is likely to retain the seat.
Fisher was forced to move the ballot boxes from Western St Thomas, where the final count was taking place in Yallahs under the supervision of the returning officer for the constituency, for fear of intimidation by groups of political supporters who swarmed the venue.
He said yesterday that both political parties agreed with the move.
The counting of the boxes from Western St Thomas are expected to be completed by nine o’clock tonight.
