Wray & Nephew Contender Series returns
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Wray & Nephew Contender Series returns for its sixth season of boxing next Wednesday, March 9 at the Chinese Benevolent Association Auditorium on St Andrew.
Fighting-time is scheduled at approximately 9:30 pm.
Richard ‘Frog’ Holmes, from Team Caribbean who was last year’s runner-up to Kemahl Russell in the middleweight division, will open the 2016 season and against Xzavier Ford of Team USA.
The Wray & Nephew Contender Series will continue the regional component that was established last season, as eight professional welterweight Caribbean boxers will go up against professional welterweight boxers from the USA in the highly anticipated event.
The Caribbean Team will comprise boxers from Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana and Barbados.
The competition will be structured to have an uneven number of rounds during each fight, thus eliminating the possibility of a tie. The series will be broadcasted on the night of the fight with Round One featuring one boxer from the Caribbean Team going up against another from USA Team.
The Series was launched on Thursday at the Red Bones Cafe.
