Everything’s in place for Soundcheq
THE production team behind fledgling record label Soundcheq certainly has the lineage for success.
Established in 2014, Soundcheq comprises Stephen Coore, Joshua Jones and N’namdi Robinson.
Coore’s father is Third World guitarist and co-founder Stephen ‘Cat’ Coore; Jones’ father is drummer Desi Jones while Robinson is the son of trombonist Nambo Robinson.
The trio produced two songs on Agent Sasco’s (aka Assassin) latest album, Theory of Reggaetivity — J.O.B. andNo Slave. They were also involved in other tracks on the set, namely Health and Wealth, Crazy, Africa andStronger.
Jones spoke about working on the album.
“It was actually one of the most joyous and educational experiences. It was more than just working on the album. It was really a collaborative effort so to speak between Agent Sasco and myself,” he said.
Jones is a producer/engineer/composer, while Robinson and Coore are producers/composers.
Twenty-six year-old Coore attended Covenant Christian Academy, Jones, 24, is a past student of St Georges’ College. Twenty-three-year-old Robinson studied at Kingsway High.
The label’s first official productions are J.O.B. and No Slave. There was no rush to become producers, according to Jones.
“We purposefully and methodically took time to learn the business of music and the general running of the Jamaican music industry before releasing a single project as Soundcheq. We take our brand very seriously and we believe in the saying ‘quality over quantity’.”
One of the label’s upcoming projects is the song Rise Up Now by emerging artiste Alexx-A-Game.
Coore, Jones and Robinson are working on several new projects.
“You can definitely look out for fresh music from Soundcheq. We have multiple releases with Chronixx, as well as Assassin. We will be collaborating with Jesse Royal on a couple of projects and we’re doing work with Kabaka Pyramid on his new album,” said Jones.
