SO Gardening – March 6
Dear Orchid Doc: I have read that spring is the best time to repot my orchids; however, I have noticed that spring is the time when they look their best, and are also blooming. It would be a pity to disturb the plants that are blooming. Is there another time that I could disturb them? I would hate to lose my lovely blooms.Hilary
Dear Hilary:
People prefer to repot in the spring, as orchids will bounce back quite quickly during this period. However, you should have no problem if you delay another month. Just don’t take it into the summer, as that would cause too much stress.
Dear Orchid Doc: What is the best fungicide to use on my orchids for general use? I have no specific problems?
Annakay
Dear Annakay:
If you are spraying as a preventative measure, you might want to use a fungicide every two weeks. If they are in a damp area or if they are sick, it is suggested that you spray weekly. I believe most fungicides are systemic, which would mean that the plant has to absorb the liquid for it to be effective. A few that immediately come to mind are Ridomil, Topsin, NewMectin, Physan and Mancozeb. Happy Gardening!
