Woman reportedly blinds ‘baby father’ during dispute over their child
A woman was taken before the court for reportedly using an object to hit the father of her child in his left eye, thus blinding him in that eye, during a dispute over their child.
Jodi Ann Campbell appeared in court on Friday before RM Pusey and was offered $100,000 bail on a charge of assault occasioning grievous bodily harm after the liaison officer informed the court that she acted in self-defence.
However, according to the allegations, the complainant was walking away from the accused when she flung an object, hitting him in the left eye.
The court heard that on February 24 the complainant was at his aunt’s home in Kingston when the accused visited and an argument developed over their child.
It is further alleged that the complainant was walking away when he felt an impact to his left eye and saw the complainant and felt blood coming from his eye.
The complainant was taken to hospital where he was treated and subsequently released while the accused was later arrested and charged.
The complainant, when questioned by the magistrate about his eye, said that he was unable to see from it, which was still bandaged.
Campbell, however, in an attempt to explain what the argument was about, told the court: “My child has been in the United States since 2014. He took my child and send my child away behind my back and I don’t know what has happened to my child. I don’t know if him kill the child, I don’t know what happen.”
The magistrate said that any mother would want to know about their child. However, Peter Champagnie, who is representing the complainant, told the court that his client is aware that the child was overseas and that he would have further discussion with his client.
The matter was subsequently set for Campbell to return to court on May 11.
