Today is International Women’s Day, a day which has been celebrated since 1911.
While this celebration and the most pressing of women’s issues have both changed overtime, there is still much to be done.
This year’s IWD focus is parity of incomes between men and women.
Unfortunately in many countries around the world men and women are not paid equally even when they do the same jobs.
But that’s not the only issue being brought to light this International Women’s Day: conversations around educational and social opportunities for women, domestic and sexual violence, corporate inequality, among others, are also in the spotlight.
It is important to remember nonetheless that awareness is only the first step. The next integral step is enacting positive change.
