Bolt happy with progress of 2016 training
Track superstar and world record holder for the 100 and 200m, Usain Bolt, says his training and preparation for the 2016 season, which includes the Olympics in Rio De Janerio, Brazil, is on course and he will be fit and ready when the time comes.
“Training is going very well, my coach is happy that I am working hard and I am feeling good. Everything has been going smoothly and I am really happy with how things are coming together,” Bolt said after the official launch of the Racers Grand Prix at the Jamaica Pegasus hotel yesterday.
Responding to recent comments from Justin Gatlin of the United States that he will beat him (Bolt) at the Rio Olympics, Bolt was firm in his response.
“This is an every year thing. I know he will be training hard to beat me, so my task is to ensure that I am training, that I am prepared to get the job done when it matters most, and I am doing just that at the moment,” Bolt said.
Bolt is expected to hit the track some time in May, according to his coach Glen Mills.
“Bolt will have several races before he participates in his club’s Grand Prix on Saturday, June 11.
“He will definitely compete in May, but as to the actual date and time I am not able to say (right now) as there are a number of options still available,” Mills said.
As to Bolt’s preparation, the Racers Track Club president and head coach said: “I am happy with how he is progressing at this time, he has been doing the work and his preparation is going as planned.”
Bolt also encouraged Jamaicans to support the Racers Grand Prix.
“This is an exciting and welcome event which comes at the right time for many athletes across the world, as it will be held three weeks before some major trials, including those in the United States and Jamaica.
“This is good, as athletes like to race in that time frame before going to their trials.
“Many top Jamaican and overseas athletes are down to compete, so I am asking all Jamaicans, especially those in corporate Jamaica, to give full support to this endeavour,” Bolt said.
