Man fatally shot by police in Norwood
ST JAMES, Jamaica — A man was shot dead during a confrontation with a police/military team that allegedly came under gunfire in the gritty Norwood community in St James last night.
The dead man has been identified as Reno Christie of a Norwood address.
Police reports are that about 11:00pm Christie was among three men who opened fire on a joint police military team that was on patrol in Norwood.
The fire was returned and he was shot. Christie was taken to the Cornwall Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The police say they recovered an illegal firearm from the body of the dead man.
The Independent Commission of Investigation (INDECOM) has commenced a probe of the incident.
