Molynes, Mico, Cablepro, SPEG make winning start

Molynes, Mico, Cablepro, SPEG make winning start

MOLYNES United ‘A’, along with Mico ‘A’, Cablepro and SPEG ‘A’ all registered wins as the 2016 Netball Jamaica/Supreme Ventures Limited Major League netball competition got underway at the Leila Robinson Courts last Thursday evening.

Molynes ‘A’, who were beaten in the Open League final last month, defeated UTech Knights 37-28 through Shantal Slater with 31 goals from 38 attempts, and Kera Christie six from 11, while for the Knights, Khadijah Williams had 19 goals from 26 attempts and Shennel Riley with nine from 17 efforts.

Quarterly scores for Molynes ‘A’ were: 9-4, 22-13 (half-time), 27-21 before pulling away to win 37-28.

Meanwhile, Cablepro crushed Waulgrovians ‘B’ 63-25 from Petal Smith’s 50 goals from 70 attempts, while Simone Gordon16 from 20 and Hasana Williams with nine from 10 led the scoring for Waulgrovians ‘B’. Cablepro led 14-11, 33-22 (half-time), 48-22 and 63-25.

Mico ‘A’ defeated Alpha ‘A’ 45-26 with Taniel Roberts scoring 33 goals from 49 attempts for the winners, while Suzanne Brown with 16 from 23 and Oberon Pitterson 10 from 17 scored for Alpha ‘A’. Mico ‘A’ led 10-8, 22-16 (half-time), 35-20 and pulled further in front to win convincingly 45-26.

SPEG ‘A’ got the better of Jetsetters ‘A’ 44-36 with quarterly scores of 10-6, 25-15 (half-time) 38-23 and held off the losers’ late burst to win. Shimona Nelson netted 37 goals from 44 attempts for SPEG ‘A’, while Zodi Green scored 25 goals from 33 attempts, and Annette Miller with 11 from 21 efforts.

The competition continues this afternoon with matches in the Major and Minor Leagues.
