Consumer Affairs Commission helps Bahamas
Senator Jerome Gomez (right) of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, and Philip Beneby, Bahamian consultant, with Yvonne Hall, executive director of the Bureau of Standards Jamaica, during a twoday fact-finding visit to Jamaica to learn about the consumer protection agency’s organisational structure, operations, and the attending legislation. The Bahamian Government reached out to Jamaica’s Consumer Affairs Commission for assistance after reviewing the regional landscape in terms of its established institutions of protection offered to its citizenry. The Bahamian Government is seeking to establish a consumer protection commission by early 2017, as is mandated by the legislation which the Bahamian legislature passed in 2006.
