Semi-final hunt on in Western Confed Super League
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Former champions Wadadah FC will lead a trio of teams seeking to improve their chances of securing a place in the semi-finals of the Jamaica Football Federation Charley’s JB Rum Western Confederation Super League as the third-round cross-zone fixtures continue today with three games.
With Granville FC (34 points) already securing their berth and the top seed, many teams are chasing the other three spots with just two more rounds to go after this weekend’s, and the action promises to be exciting with very little room in which to operate, as five points separate second through sixth positions.
Today second-placed Wadadah FC on 24 points will host Salt Marsh United at Jarrett Park; Clark’s Town, who are also on 24 points, will host Granville FC at Cedric Titus; while fourth-placed Sandals Whitehouse are away to Lucea FC at the Collin Miller Sports Complex in Lucea.
Wadadah FC are coming off a bruising 0-1 loss to Granville FC in a rescheduled game on Wednesday, and will be eager to bounce back against a Salt Marsh United team that has struggled since the first round and have won just twice in their last 10 games after starting with three straight wins.
Kemiro James and Robert Lewis will lead the Wadadah FC attack with the likes of Ronaldo McLeish coming off the bench in the last few games to add some pace against tiring defences.
Clark’s Town are perfect at home all season, winning all six games played at the Cedric Titus High grounds and conceding just one goal, but will face a rampaging Granville FC team in a repeat of the mid-season final won in extra time by the St James club.
Clark’s Town come into the game on the back of a 0-0 away draw to cellar dwellers Lucea FC, while Granville FC were scoring wins over tough St James rivals Reggae Youths and Wadadah FC.
Sandals Whitehouse have fought their way back into the semi-final picture, and another three points at Lucea FC today would give the Aaron Lawrence-coached team some breathing room over Montego Bay Boys Club who play away to Beaches Negril on Tuesday.
Despite Akeem Shackleford’s hot scoring run cooling off, Sandals Whitehouse have managed to find goals elsewhere and will hope Ron Daley, Delroy Davis and Leonardo Rankine can score today.
