Boys’ and Girls’ Champs 2016: UPDATE – Hydel, KC early leaders
KINGSTON, Jamaica—- Kingston College and Hydel are the early leaders on the points standings after three finals on day two of the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships at the National Stadium on Wednesday.
KC head the boys standings with 32 points ahead of St Jago on 21 and Jamaica College on 19. Defending champions Calabar are in fourth with 10 and Excelsior rounding off the top five with nine.
On the girls side, Hydel are at the summit on 19 points, followed by defending champions Edwin Allen on 16 and Excelsior (15). Vere Technical (13) and Holmwood Technical (11) complete the top five.
Tersha Jacobs of Edwin Allen won the girl’s 2,000-metre Steeplechase open by a wide margin in 7:07.86 minutes ahead of teammate Jeima Davis (7:19.10) to score register valuable points for the Clarendon-based school.
The boys equivalent was won by Thaleetio Green of St Jago in a record 5:53.14 minutes, erasing the previous mark of 5:59.70 set by Obrian
Frith in 2014. Garfield Gordon (5:56.73) of Mavis Bank and Shane Buchanan (5:59.11) were second and third respectively.
