Manchester cops searching for gun used in attempted robbery
MANDEVILLE, Manchester — The Manchester Police were up until press time last night still searching for a firearm used in the attempted robbery of a taxi driver in the parish yesterday morning.
“We are still trying to find the weapon,” Superintendent of the Division Vendolyn Cameron-Powell told the Jamaica Observer yesterday.
According to the police, two men posing as passengers boarded the taxi along Caledonia Road in Mandeville minutes to to 6:00 am.
Along the journey, one of the men reportedly brandished a gun and attempted to rob the taxi driver.
The vehicle crashed into an embankment and one of the gunmen reportedly succumbed to injuries caused by the impact. There has been no report of any injury to the taxi operator.
Cameron-Powell said that the deceased is about 45 years old and and hailed from Porus in the parish.
She said that they were still trying to ascertain the age of the second alleged robber, who is currently in police custody and had passed himself off as a 17-year-old high school dropout.
