Apprentice Linton Steadman resurges with triple
Champion apprentice Linton Steadman, in a resurgence of form, rode three winners to highlight the 11-race card at Caymanas Park on Easter Monday.
Steadman first won the seventh race aboard 1-4 favourite Flying Miracle for trainer Neive Graham over 1,300 metres.
Steadman then returned to boot home Brave Prospect for the same trainer over 1,300 metres and capped off his well-deserved triple in the nightcap on Classical Train for trainer Patrick Taylor over 1,000 metres straight.
“The feeling is really good at the moment. I have not been getting the winners of late but I am working very hard and this triple is just reward for my hard work,” Steadman said.
Shining Light, guided by Paul ‘Country’ Francis, produced a fighting effort to win the Easter Sprint Cup feature. Owned and trained by Gary Griffiths, Shining Light played the waiting game behind the speed of Action Man (Javaniel Patterson) and Lady Shankari (Wesley Henry) for the first half of the race.
The confident Francis then sent through Shining Light against the inside rails to the lead just turning for home and the chestnut colt then drew away from the field, and although shortening a bit, Francis kept his mount well-balanced in the last 50 yards of the event to withstand the fast-finishing Dwayne’s Star, with Aaron Chatrie.
Shining Light won by a neck in a time of 1:06:3 minutes behind splits of 23:2 and 46:2 seconds for the Overnight Allowance event over 1,100 metres. Action Man finished third.
“Shining Light did everything right to win and I am happy with his performance,” Griffiths said. Racing continues next Saturday.
