St James man to be sentenced for murder of Australian visitor
A St James man who was recently found guilty of murdering Australian visitor Bryan Johnson at a hotel in Montego Bay in 2006, after a second trial, will be sentenced in the Home Circuit Court on April 22.
Adrian Forrester was found guilty after the jury returned a unanimous verdict on March 18, at the end of a two-week trial.
Forrester was first tried in the St James Home Circuit Court in 2008, but the jury had returned a hung verdict and a retrial was ordered.
Johnson, then 27, had checked in at the now defunct Gloucestershire Hotel in Montego Bay on August 9, 2009 and two days later was found lying in a pool of blood.
Johnson had stab wounds to the head, chest and neck.
Police who went to the scene found blood splattered all over the room.
Johnson’s wallet and luggage were missing and a safe was opened. Police theorised that there was a deadly struggle between Johnson and his killer/s.
The police also found bloody clothing, a bloody watch, bloody shoes and slippers and Johnson’s passport in the room.
However, an armband which had been issued to a guest in room 202, an extension cord, and key from that room led police to Forrester who had checked into the room on August 10.
Forrester was arrested in November 2006, but denied that he had ever gone to the Gloucestershire Hotel.
However, a handwriting expert confirmed that the guest who had signed the check-in registration card at the hotel was the same person who signed an application form for a Jamaican driver’s licence previously issued to Forrester.
