TP, Faulkland seek return to winning ways
ALBION, St James — Former champions Tomorrow’s People and promoted Faulkland FC will seek to shake off indifferent forms and get back to winning ways today as the return round of the St James FA Sandals/ATL Senior League approaches its final stages.
Both teams have failed to win in the last few rounds but are in second place in their respective zones, and with wins today they could move to the top of the points table.
Tomorrow’s People, who will host Norwood Strikers at Bickersteth, are winless in three games, drawing twice and losing the other after winning their first six games to start the season, but are on 20 points, just one behind leaders Catherine Hall in Zone Two.
Faulkland FC, who will face Seba FC at Jarrett Park, followed up their first-ever loss in the regular season with another defeat, this time to Montego Bay United (MBU) Under-21 on Saturday. They are on 18 points in Zone One, two behind Melbourne FC, who have two games in hand. Faulkland had beaten Seba FC 4-1 in their first-round meeting.
On Wednesday Heights FC continued their good form beating Norwood Strikers 3-1 at Albion for their third-straight win and second over Norwood in three weeks.
Neil Clarke scored twice for Heights FC to improve to 15 points and third in Zone Two, while Norwood Strikers continued their disappointing season.
Also on Wednesday, Seba FC and Montego Bay United Under-21 drew 1-1 at UDC, while Tomorrow’s People and Lilliput Rovers were goalless at Wyndham.
At Albion, Norwood Strikers enjoyed more possession in the early part of the game, but three quick strikes from Heights FC rocked them back on their heels.
Clarke fired Heights FC into the lead in the 26th minute, and four minutes later, Omar Hall doubled the margin shocking the Norwood Strikers team.
Clarke, who has scored in his team’s last three games, pushed the game further away from Norwood Strikers when he beat an offside trap and fired home from close range a minute into stoppage time.
Keneal Woodstock scored for Norwood Strikers early in the second half, but the expected come-back did not materialise.
At UDC, Venton Evans Jnr scored his first goal of the season to give MBU Under-21 the lead in the 29th minute, but Nicardo Malcolm salvaged a point for Seba FC when he scored in the 39th minute.
Last week, Tevin Kerr’s 74th-minute goal gave MBU Under-21 a morale-boosting win over Faulkland FC at Jarrett Park.
In the first round MBU Under-21 had taken the lead against Faulkland FC, but then gave up four goals.
