Lawrence propels Arnett Gardens Rockers to massive success
KWAYME Lawrence cored a game-high 35 points to lead defending champions Arnett Gardens Rockers to a crushing 111-88 win over GC Foster Lions as the 2016 Southern Basketball Conference (SBC) League continued at the Tony Spaulding Sports Complex on Tuesday night.
Both teams came into this encounter unbeaten, with Rockers having three wins and the Lions with four wins. The first quarter produced an evenly contested duel, with the Rockers having only a 24-22 lead at the break.
The Rockers pulled away from the Lions 57-34 at the half-time break, then extended it to 30 points (92-62) at the final break.
Although the Lions had the better of Arnett Rockers in the fourth and final quarter, it was the defending champions who dominated the game to put on a clinical performance to beat their opponents convincingly. The Lions took the fourth quarter (26-19), but it was the Rockers who came out victorious.
Meanwhile, in matches played the previous Saturday, Camperdown Giants got the better of Central Village Strikers 47-40, with quarterly scores of 4-9, 25-17 (half-time), 39-30 before going on to win 47-40 in the final quarter. Ramar Hurd got 12 points and Morris Roberts with 11 points for the Giants, while Jermaine Garrick got 16 points for the Strikers.
In another game played, Portmore Flames got past St George’s Saints 68-63 after trailing in the first two quarters, but they managed to rally in the final two quarters to come out winners. The Flames quarterly scores were 14-28, 20-41 (half-time), and 44-58. For the Flames Kenardo Smith got 17 points and Adrian Coote with 15 points, while for the Saints Kirk Ferguson scored 19 points and Jermaine Miller added 22 points.
Meanwhile, in a Jamaica Basketball Association Women’s League, Lady Panthers with 14 points from Shennell Moodie defeated Holy Childhood Two 40-21, for which Vanessa Parnell got nine points.
The SBC League continues today with Camperdown Giants vs Real Lions at 4:00 pm; EXED Heats vs Spanish Town Spartans at 7:00 pm; while in Women’s League – Holy Childhood One vs Cougars at 5:30 pm at the Tony Spauldings Sports Complex.
Aqua Youths vs Portmore Flames at 5:00 pm; Pembroke Hall vs Majesty Gardens New Creation at 6:30 at Pembroke Hall Court; Blazing Panther vs Swift Sons at 5:00 pm; G C Foster Lions vs Jamaica Defence Force at 5:00 pm at G C Foster College of Physical Education and Sports.
Action also continues tomorrow with the following matches: Swift Sons vs St George’s Saints at 4:00 p.m; Arnett Gardens Rockers vs Central Village at 7:00 pm at Tony Spaulding Sports Complex (Arnett Gardens).
Delacree Park vs Blazin Panthers at 4:00 pm at Delacree Park Courts, while in Women’s League, Lady Panthers will host Waulgrovians at 5:30 pm at Arnett Gardens.
