The bright ‘light’ is shining
The Gary Griffiths-owned and trained Shining Light continued to show vast improvement when he won the Easter Sprint Cup feature at Caymanas Park on Easter Monday.
Racing at the Overnight Allowance level for the fourth time, Shining Light, ridden by Paul Francis, just did enough this time around to hold on to victory by a neck ahead of the fast-finishing Dwayne Star, under Aaron Chatrie.
Action Man (Javaniel Patterson) finished third with Meritone, the mount of Jerome Innis, in fourth in the three-year-olds and upward event contested over 1,100 metres. The winning time was 1:06:3 minutes behind splits of 23:2 and 46:2 seconds.
It was a well-deserved victory by Shining Light as he continued to demonstrate consistency, and this last win showed maturity as he fought in deep stretch for the victory.
Shining Light is a four-yearold chestnut colt by Seeking The Glory – Bachelor Of Arts by Maverick.
“This is a great performance by Shining Light, as I think the journey was a little bit short of his best. Six-and-a-half or seven furlongs up to a mile suits him well because he is showing that he can stay now as he gets older,” Griffiths told the Complete Racing Guide.
