Jamaica’s Climate Walk 2016
In 2015, ESL in association with the Ministry of Water Land Environment and Climate Change embarked on a major sensitization and awareness campaign: Jamaica’s Climate Walk under the theme Climate Change, Health and Wellness. It was the first for Jamaica and was designed to promote awareness of Climate Change. The Walk was aimed at sensitizing ordinary Jamaicans to the link between climate change, health and wellness and encouraging people to start thinking about “how it affects me.”
The Walk was held on October 24, 2015 and was well attended by about 1,600 people of all ages and from different sectors in Jamaica.
As part of the day’s events, there was an “ECCO Village” in the Emancipation Park hosted by ECCO Magazine. The Village had various private and public sector entities who took the opportunity to showcase their environmental products and services and engage the public on environmentally friendly initiatives in which they are involved.
This sensitization process is still ongoing so that we can continue to adapt and mitigate against the impacts of climate change. This year’s Walk will be in November 2016 under the theme Climate Change, Water and Economic Growth. Interested Companies / Organizations are encouraged to contact.
