Defending champions Waterhouse FC will put their Locker Room Sports/Kingston and St Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) Jackie Bell knockout title on the line when they tackle Arnett Gardens at Sabina Park today starting at 4:00 pm.

Waterhouse, who had a horrendous Premier League campaign, will be looking to end season on a high after escaping relegation on the last day. Gates open at 2:00 pm and admission is $600.

Waterhouse clipped Super League outfit August Town 1-0 in the semi-final, while Arnett Gardens blanked their neighbours Boys’ Town 2-0 to set up an enticing clash between the two old foes.

Arnett Gardens and Harbour View are the most successful clubs with six titles each and the ‘Junglists’ will be favourites to capture win number seven following victories in 1990, 1992, 1995, 1999, 2005 and 2012.

Waterhouse, who will be looking for their fifth title following triumphs in 1997, 2002, 2003 and 2015, will start slight underdogs despite their poor season.

The problem facing head coach Jerome Waite is that he will have to lift his Arnett Gardens players mentally from that morale-sapping loss to Montego Bay United in the Premier Leaque semi-final last Sunday. But can he do it? Only time will tell.

But such is the depth and quality of this Arnett Gardens outfit that Waterhouse cannot for one minute take them lightly, and will have to be at their best to prevent the ‘Junglists’ from winning yet another Jackie Bell title.

The likes of Damian Hyatt, Oneil Thompson, Dicoy Williams, Ranike Anderson, Jabeur Johnson, Renae Lloyd, Marvin Morgan, Kenneil Hyde, Vishinul Harris, Leon Strickland, Michealos Martin, Marcelino Blackburn and Kemal Malcolm should prove too hot to handle.

But it’s far from being a one-sided match and regardless of the state of mind of the Arnett Gardens players, Waterhouse will be a difficult team to beat.

Once again Jermaine Anderson will lead from in front and will be ably supported by Kenroy Howell, Roshane Patterson, Theo Brown, Oshane Roberts, Deandre Brown, Nicholi Finlayson, Kemar Beckford, Carlos Wright, Sean Coleman, Nicholas Nelson and Devon Hodges.

The winner will walk away with $400,000 and the runners-up $250,000.

The trophy is played for in memory of Winthrope ‘Jackie’ Bell — one of Jamaica’s foremost football personalities who died in Mexico City while attending the World Cup Finals in June 1986.

He was the president and coach of Santos FC at the time of his death and a former national player and coach for Jamaica.

Jackie Bell is from one of Jamaica’s legendary footballing families and his six brothers were eminent footballers.

His brother Russell, is a former St George’s College Manning Cup player and former vice-president of KSAFA; Vernon, former St George’s College and Kingston College Manning Cup player and former coach of Tivoli Gardens and KC; Howard (Howie), former Kingston College and Jamaica National player and now a National team manager at the JFF; Neville (Bertis), former St George’s College and Jamaica youth player, and outstanding coach of St George’s College; Douglas (Dougie), former Kingston College outstanding Manning Cup and Jamaica player who is said to be one of, if not the best schoolboy centre half, and Karl, another St George’s College past player.
