Cement Company demolishes old kilns
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Caribbean Cement Company Limited (CCCL) is reporting that a demolition exercise conducted this morning, as the plant undergoes major changes, was successful with no injury or property damage.
According to a release from the company, the emission stacks for Kilns Two and Three (old production lines long retired) were demolished.
“Extensive preparation went into the exercise which was carried out by a team of experts. All precautions were taken to ensure the safety of staff, the surrounding community and the motoring public as well as the protection of our facility,” the release said adding that involved coordination with a number of stakeholders including the security forces, private security firms, airports authority, technical experts and other government bodies.
Operations were briefly halted to facilitate the demolition activity at 7:30 am; however, all operations are now back to normal.
The exercise they say was in keeping with CCCL improved housekeeping thrust that will contribute to a safer and healthier work environment.
