Three semi-finalists decided in South Central Super League
HAYES, Clarendon — Three of the four semi-finalists in the Charley’s JB Rum/South Central Confederation Super League have been decided following the penultimate round of games in the preliminary phase of the competition.
St Catherine duo Tru-Juice FC and Dunbeholden FC continue to set the pace in their respective groups after registering identical victories at the weekend, with Jamalco FC joining them in the top four following a big home win.
Tru-Juice edged Black Star FC 1-0, courtesy of a second-half goal from Zadian McGaw in Black River, to maintain their two-point gap at the top of Zone One.
Clarendon champions Jamalco joined Tru-Juice in the semis with a 6-0 thrashing of Ricam Academy at their Wembley base in Hayes.
Andrew Isaacs led the way with a hat-trick, scoring in the 41st, 54th and the 55th minutes. Dwight Dunk, Akeem Henry and Kenroy Thomas completed the rout.
Jamalco now have 10 points, two adrift of Tru-Juice. Both sides will now battle for group honours in their final preliminary-round game. Out-of-contention Black Star stayed in third place with four points, while Ricam remained in the cellar position with three points.
Dunbeholden moved within a point of securing top spot in Zone Two following a 1-0 win over New Bowens FC in Spanish Town.
The victory means Dunbeholden’s 12 points can only be surpassed by St Bess FC, who eked out a 1-1 draw at Downs FC.
The St Elizabeth champions trail Dunbeholden by five points, but they have a game in hand against third-placed Downs, who maintained their faint semi-final hopes when Christopher Dyer fired home from the penalty spot in the 66th minute. Delano Peters had given St Bess the lead in the 33rd minute.
Downs are now stuck in third place on three points, but will have to win their two remaining games, while hoping for favourable results elsewhere, if they are to beat St Bess to a top four spot.
St Bess are four points clear.
