St Bess, Downs hunt semi-final spot in South Central Super League

LACOVIA, St Elizabeth — The hunt for the last semi-final spot in the Charley’s JB Rum/South Central Confederation Super League continues today, with St Bess FC and Downs FC vying for the honours.

Both sides are looking to join the already qualified Tru-Juice FC, Jamalco FC and Dunbeholden FC in the semis.

St Bess, the St Elizabeth Major League champions, lead the race and will clinch qualification should they beat New Bowens FC in their Zone Two return-fixture at the Lacovia Community Centre, starting at 4:00 pm.

In fact, they could even lose to their Clarendon-based opponents and still secure a top-four finish, but only if Downs fail to beat group leaders Dunbeholden in their corresponding fixture in south Manchester. St Bess currently occupy second place in the group with seven points, four clear of Downs.

St Catherine champions Dunbeholden lead the zone with 12 points and need only a point at the Downs Community Centre to win the group.

New Bowens, with two points from four games, are out of semi-final contention. St Bess and Downs have a game in hand against each other.

Over in Zone One, hosts Tru-Juice and Jamalco will battle for group honours when they meet in the top-of-the-table clash at the Bybrook Oval in Bog Walk, St Catherine.
