Jamaica’s participation in Caricom to be reviewed – PM
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Prime Minister Andrew Holness announced today that he will appoint a commission to review Jamaica’s participation in the Caribbean Community (Caricom) and Single Market.
“A weak Jamaica does not make a strong Caricom,” the prime minister said while speaking at the official opening of a $285-million plant in St Andrew by the Seprod Group.
He said that the time has come for Jamaica to assert itself in Caricom and play a more active role, thereby strengthening the country’s economic and political association.
Prime Minister Holness explained that the commission to revise Caricom forms part of the country’s current growth agenda, and as such will assess how Jamaica can benefit from the common market in this regard.
