TnT cop accidentally shoots elderly woman
PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC) — An 80-year-old grandmother died in hospital on Tuesday night a few hours after she was accidentally shot by a police officer.
Police said that Sona Lalloo was hit in her head by the bullet from the policeman’s gun as he chased two suspected bandits near her home in Rancho Quemado, in south Trinidad.
Police said that the woman was in the bathroom of the house when the incident occurred.
According to media reports, the 21-year-old police officer, with less than two years’ service, was chasing the men after police had noticed one of the men had an object in his hand resembling a firearm.
He is reported to have fallen and two bullets were discharged, one of which entered the house hitting the elderly woman.
The unconscious woman was rushed to hospital, but she died soon afterwards.
