Difficult, very difficult to oppose Nuclear Affair in Oaks
The fillies will be the centre of attraction in tomorrow’s Caribbean Choice-sponsored Jamaica Oaks. This year, 10 of the leading three-year-old fillies take to the track to vie for the $1.6-million first prize on offer.
Nuclear Affair, winner of the 1,000 Guineas on April 9, leads the list of runners and is sure to be installed the overwhelming odds-on favourite for the 10-furlong event.
The following is the Complete Racing Guide’s analysis of the season’s third Classic race.
A Thousand Stars – Ran well to finish behind Nuclear Affair in the 1,000 Guineas just after winning her maiden race. Although way behind Nuclear Affair, A Thousand Stars did her best running in the final two furlongs of the mile event. Difficult to beat Nuclear Affair, but another second place will be in good order.
Bubbling Kitten – Just not living up to early expectations. Bubbling Kitten was never in the mix in the Guineas and the same fate should be expected in the Oaks.
Baby P – Raced for the first time just last weekend when finishing way behind winner Mr Doitbetta. Baby P may need more time to get her act together. A minor share is her best hope at this time.
Glyder – Has never shown any inclination to win going over the longer distances.
Bird Catcher – Was around for a while in the 1,000 Guineas, especially in the early stages, without ever being a winning factor. The same should be applicable tomorrow.
Golden Glory – Ran relatively well to earn in the 1,000 Guineas, and that earning sequence is definitely on the cards in the Oaks.
Fedora – Started her career well as a two-year-old, but has not shown much improvement at three.
Sorrentino’s Star – Finished third in the 1,000 Guineas. Sorrentino’s Star came into the lane four lengths behind and ended nine lengths behind the winner at the end, thereby making 10 furlongs a more arduous journey for this Philip Feanny-trained filly. Note that Feanny has removed the visor.
Wartime – Just coming off her maiden win and should be well held in this one.
Nuclear Affair – Probably the best three-year-old in training, including colts and geldings. Nuclear Affair was impressive and classy in winning the 1,000 Guineas in a faster time than that posted by Future King when winning the 2,000 Guineas on the same day. Since April 9, Nuclear Affair has progressed well on the exercise track and is primed for another great run. It is going to take a very brave punter to oppose Nuclear Affair in this one. Nuclear Affair is special.
