Kris An Charles joins sponsorship of Business House domino league
THE 2016 National Association of Domino Bodies (NADB)/Wray & Nephew White Overproof Rum Business House League will get cracking today with a season that promises to be filled with a lot of fun and excitement.
The competition, which is also sponsored by Kris An Charles Investment Company, was launched at the National Housing Trust (NHT) last Friday.
The tournament is divided into two divisions (One and Two), with each division split into two groups.
The knockout tournament is set to begin on May 27.
A total of 24 teams will vie for two titles over two rounds in a home-and-away format over four months (April-July), with the top eight teams at the end of the preliminaries moving on to the quarter-finals.
The winning team for the Division One tournament will walk away with $30,000 and second place will collect $20,000, while the winners of Division Two will get $25,000, and second place will receive $15,000.
Kingston Wharves are the reigning Division One champions, Petrojam are the Division Two champions and
Gleaner, the KO champions.
Teams that reach the maximum 160 points for a victory will get 11 points, while 10 points will be allocated for a win and five points for a draw.
Sean Davis, the league’s technical officer, explained the tournament rules: “Passed is a play, it is a part of the game. All players must wait their turn until their opponents say pass before he or she can play, regardless if he or she has all plays.”
“Another rule that must be stressed is the ‘one away’ rule. Once a player brings a domino above the table, he or she must play that domino even if the domino cannot be played. And that if the player brings back the said domino below the table their opponents can call the ‘one way’ without actually identifying said domino.”
Davis added that a player without proper identification will not be allowed inside the playing ring.
Humbert Davis, NADB first vicepresident, thanked the sponsors for their support.
“I must give a big thank you to our title sponsor Wray & Nephew for the continuous support to the league, and to our new sponsor Kris An Charles for coming on board,” Humbert Davis said.
In the dress parade, Jamaica Observer took first place, National Commercial Bank finished second, ahead of Kingston Wharves.
Kingston Wharves, NCB, National Baking Company, Seprod Limited, Campari, Wray & Nephew Limited, The Gleaner, JUTC, Carib Cement Company, NHT, Petrojam and Jamaica Fire Brigade will contest Division One.
Division Two is comprised of Ministry of Finance, Pepsi Cola Jamaica, Transport Authority, Flow, Kris An Charles Investments,
Jamaica Observer, Seaboard Jamaica, Urban Development Corporation (UDC), Stewart’s Auto Sales, Cari-Med, Bank of Jamaica and Digicel.
