McNee, Wynter through to quarter-finals at Pan Am Senior Badminton Championships
Jamaicans Anthony McNee and Katherine Wynter advanced to the quarter-finals in the Men’s and Women’s Singles, respectively, in the individuals event at the 2016 Pan American Senior Badminton Championship at Campinas, Brazil, yesterday.
McNee created a mild upset, beating number four seed Bastian Lizama from Chile 21-18, 17-21, 21-19, while Wynter defeated Camila Duany from Peru 21-12, 22-20 to reach her quarter-final.
McNee will now face Ivan Leon from Chile in the quarter-final and Wynter will be up against Paloma Eduarda Da Silva.
In the Mixed Doubles, Wynter and Dennis Coke also advanced to the quarter-finals after they defeated Igor Ibrahim and Thalita Correa from Brazil 26-24, 21-13. They will meet Bruno Berreto Deza and Paula La Torre Regal from Peru in the quarter-finals.
All quarter-finals are scheduled to be played today.
On Tuesday, the Jamaicans were placed fourth in the team events behind Canada and USA tied for first place, Brazil and Chile tied for second place, and Peru in third.
