Love named outstanding girls’ athlete at Penns
PENNSYLVANIA, United States — Excelsior High’s Shancie Love, who on Thursday broke her own national junior record in the discus event, was named the Penn Relays High School girls’ athlete for Individual Events after she won the event with a throw of 54.72 metres.
Love, who set a new ISSA Girls Champs Class One record in March, and who also won at the CARIFTA Games, broke the three-year-old Penn Relays record of 54.49m set by another Jamaican, Gleneve Grange, of Holmwood Technical in her final high school meet.
Love is the eighth Jamaican overall to win the award and second in the last four years.
Grange won it in 2013; Nikita Tracey of Edwin Allen in 2009; Kimberly Williams of Vere Technical in 2007; Shereene Pinnock of Edwin Allen in 2006; Melaine Walker of St Jago in 2001; Elva Goulbourne of Dinthill Technical in 1999; and Peta-gaye Gayle of St Elizabeth Technical in 1997.
